Keeping Your Fur Babys Safe During Fireworks Season

The Fourth of July is this coming week, and while fireworks can be a dazzling display for us, they often spell stress and anxiety for our beloved pets. Your vet clinic knows how much we care about our furry family members - and they do too. That's why they want to equip you with the knowledge and tips to help your pets navigate the loud and often frightening fireworks season safely and with as little stress as possible. Let's make this holiday a happy and calm one for everyone, paws included! Please reach out to your vet clinic to help your pets should they suffer stress and anxiety during this time of year. Here’s a general message to Pet Parents from a local clinic (our own clinic):

Dear Pet Parents,

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we want to remind you that fireworks—while exciting for us—can be extremely stressful for our pets. Many dogs and cats experience anxiety due to the loud noises and bright lights.

Your pet’s comfort and well-being are our top priority. Many vet clinics offer customized treatment options to help keep your furry family members calm and safe during the holiday.

Treatment Options Could Include:

  • Prescription Anxiety Medications
Safe and effective options tailored to your pet’s size, breed, and medical history.

  • Over-the-Counter Calming Aids
Natural supplements and pheromone-based products that can reduce stress.

  • Behavioral Tips & Home Strategies
Advice on how to create a calm environment at home—like using white noise or a “safe space.”

  • Consultations Available
Not sure what your pet needs? Schedule a quick consultation with one of our veterinarians to find the best approach.

Don't Wait!

We encourage you to contact your vet right away to ensure enough time to prepare for the 4th. Medications and calming aids may require a few days to take full effect.

Work with your clinic to make this 4th of July a peaceful one for you and your pet.

Please contact your local vet clinic if your pet(s) suffer from anxiety and stress during the fireworks season. Our corgi, Rylee does and we’ve contacted our vet (Columbia Veterinary Center) to get a calming medication for him. Not only does it help HIM, but it helps US - cuz it can be stressful having your dog trying to climb INTO your body to hide from the scary sounds.

Have a happy AND SAFE 4th of July from Just Your Fur Baby!
